Bike the Wilds

The North Country has a diverse variety of roads and trails for your cycling pleasure. Whether you prefer an intense ride with hills, rugged terrain and mountainous views or a family friendly ride along a quiet, scenic country road, the cycling opportunities are abundant for mountain, fat tire and road bikes. Here are a few suggested routes for you to try when in the area.

Loop 1: Shallow Road Loop (approximately 10 miles)
Starting on Main Street in Colebrook, travel East on Route 26
Take a left onto Fish Hatchery Road
Take a right onto Reed Road
From Reed Road, take a left onto Shallow Road
Take your first left up a steep driveway toward Two Sparrows Orchard
Follow the trail, bearing left at the two-way intersection
Continue on this road/path until you reach Beloin Tree Farm (at the top of Stevens Hill Road)
Continue down Stevens Hill Road
At the intersection of Stevens Hill and South Hill, take a right
From there take your first left onto the ATV trail and follow it to Route 145
Cross Route 145 to Hughes Road
Take a left off of Hughes Road onto the ATV trail.  This trail will bring you to LaPerle's IGA
Cross Route 3 to the Rail Trail, taking a left onto the Rail Trail at the intersection
Travel the Rail Trail to Bridge Street
Take a left on Bridge Street to return to Main Street, Colebrook
 
 

 

 

Loop 2: Diamond Peak Loop (approximately 22 miles)
Starting on Main Street in Colebrook, travel East on Route 26
Take a left onto Fish Hatchery Road
Take a right onto Reed Road
At the end of Reed Road, bear right onto Bennett Hill Road
At the intersection, stay straight (crossing Bear Road Road)
Continue on Cree Road, taking a left onto East Colebrook Road
At the end of East Colebrook Road, take a right onto Diamond Pond Road
Follow Diamond Pond Road to Route 26
Turn right onto Route 26 to Diamond Peaks Motel and Store
From this point, take a right onto the Cree Road ATV trail back to Cree Road
Traveling back on Cree Road to Bennett Hill Road, then to Reed Road
From Reed Road, take a right onto Shallow Road
Take your first left up a steep driveway toward Two Sparrows Orchard
Follow the trail, bearing left at the two-way intersection
Continue on this road/path until you reach Beloin Tree Farm (at the top of Stevens Hill Road)
Continue down Stevens Hill Road
At the intersection of Stevens Hill and South Hill, take a right
From there take your first left onto the ATV trail and follow it to Route 145.
Cross Route 145 to Hughes Road
Take a left off of Hughes Road onto the ATV trail.  This trail will bring you to LaPerle's IGA
Cross Route 3 to the Rail Trail, taking a left onto the Rail Trail at the intersection
Travel the Rail Trail to Bridge Street
Take a left on Bridge Street to return to Main Street, Colebrook
 
 

 
 
Loop 3: Bear Rock Loop (30+ miles)
Starting on Bridge Street in Colebrook, locate the start of the Rail Trail
Travel on the Rail Trail, taking a right to Route 3 near LaPerle's IGA
Cross Route 3 and follow the ATV trail to Hughes Road
At the end of Hughes Road, cross Route 145 and connect to the ATV trail
The ATV trail will bring you to South Hill Road
Take a left onto South Hill Road
At the end of South Hill Road, bear right onto Bear Rock Road
Continue on Bear Rock Road to Heath Road (for a short time), and back to Bear Rock Road to Bear Rock Adventures
Pass Bear Rock Adventures, taking a right onto Bennett Hill Road
Take a left onto Reed Road
From Reed Road, take a right onto Shallow Road
Take your first left up a steep driveway toward Two Sparrows Orchard
Follow the trail, bearing left at the two-way intersection
Continue on this road/path until you reach Beloin Tree Farm (at the top of Stevens Hill Road)
Continue down Stevens Hill Road
At the intersection of Stevens Hill and South Hill, take a right
From there take your first left onto the ATV trail and follow it to Route 145.
Cross Route 145 to Hughes Road
Take a left off of Hughes Road onto the ATV trail.  This trail will bring you to LaPerle's IGA
Cross Route 3 to the Rail Trail, taking a left onto the Rail Trail at the intersection
Travel the Rail Trail to Bridge Street
